Blakemore Foundation



The Blakemore Foundation was established in 1990 by Thomas and Frances Blakemore to encourage the advanced study of Asian languages and to improve the understanding of Asian fine arts in the United States.

The next deadline for applications is December 30, 2011 for study starting between June 2012 and May 2013.

Grants are highly competitive. In recent years, we were able to fund less than 10% of applicants.

Eligible Languages & Programs

Blakemore language grants are awarded for study of the principal modern languages of East and Southeast Asia.

Chinese Japanese
Korean Thai
Vietnamese Indonesian
Khmer Burmese

Consideration will be given to other East or Southeast Asian languages on an individual basis. Grants will not be made for the study of Asian languages not in current use.

The Blakemore Foundation makes grants for study only at specific language programs.  Please refer to the Grant Guidelines for a current list of approved programs.
