The Blakemore Foundation was established in 1990 by Thomas and Frances Blakemore to encourage the advanced study of Asian languages and to improve the understanding of Asian fine arts in the United States.
 

 

Language Grants for Advanced Asian Language Study

2009 Blakemore Freeman Fellowships

Since 1990, the Foundation has awarded over $11.2 million in language grants. Blakemore Freeman Fellowships fund a year of advanced study of an Asian language in Asia for American citizens and permanent residents of the United States who have a college degree and who plan to use an Asian language in their careers. 

The next postmark deadline for applications will be December 30, 2008.  Please refer to our language grant main page for grant guidelines and eligibility requirements, and our FAQ page, which has answers to many common questions.  Application forms are printed from this website. For 2009 grants, study must start between June 2009 and May 2010.

2009 Blakemore Refresher Grants

Blakemore Refresher Grants are short-term grants (minimum of two months) available to former Blakemore or Blakemore Freeman Fellows, professors who are teaching in an Asian field at a university or college in the United States whose degree is in an Asian field, post-doctoral professionals whose degree is in an Asian field, and graduates of the regular academic-year programs at IUC-Yokohama, IUP-Beijing, and the ICLP-Taipei.  Please refer to our Refresher Grant page for further information.  Application forms are printed from this website. Frances Blakemore Asian Art Grants

Frances Blakemore Asian Art Grants promote the understanding of Asian fine art in America. Since 1998, the Foundation has awarded over $2.8 million in art grants to a variety of museums, universities and other nonprofit organizations.
